Galactic War Beginner Guide
Start Galactic War Season Zero with confidence: alliance basics, sector pushes, RTS match prep, rewards, and loadouts that survive the July 20–August 2 launch window.
What Galactic War adds beyond skirmish
Galactic War is ZeroSpace’s seasonal competitive mode. A strategic galactic map sits above individual RTS matches: alliances contest sectors, and winning on the ground captures tiles that generate season resources, ranking points, and cosmetic rewards. Season Zero runs July 20 through August 2, 2026, coinciding with Steam Early Access launch.
You bring the same hero, mercenary, and faction loadout used in skirmish, so fundamentals from the how to play guide still apply. The difference is macro coordination—your alliance may call you to defend a threatened sector while you personally prefer attacking. Read the Galactic War mode overview for playlist rules and reward tracks.
New players should complete several skirmish wins and one stable loadout from the Galactic War tier list before queuing ranked sectors. Use the Galactic War map guide to memorize high-value lanes and seasonal modifiers.
Watch the embedded Season Zero overview video once for pacing, then rewatch with pause after your first three sector losses—note whether mistakes were map, loadout, or communication failures.
Alliance roles and communication
Alliances win when roles are clear. Common assignments: scouter (intel on enemy movements), anchor (defends core sectors), striker (pushes contested borders), and flex (fills RTS matches where numbers are needed). You do not need voice chat if ping tools and quick messages are used consistently—mark sectors under threat before enemies commit.
Share loadout intentions. If you run Grell swarm with Weaver hero support, tell allies you need tower control time early. If you play Legion siege, request vision mercenaries like Mirror or faction scouts. Mercenary synergies are covered on mercenary unit pages.
Avoid double-stacking strikers on the same empty sector while your home lane is undefended. Galactic War rewards map pressure that forces enemy responses, not isolated 1v1 wins that do not translate to tile control. When voice chat is unavailable, agree on simple ping vocabulary before queuing—defend home," "push mid," and "flex south" prevent silent confusion during busy launch-weekend queues.
RTS match prep for contested sectors
When a sector pops, you drop into a standard ZeroSpace RTS match with alliance stakes. Pre-check enemy faction intel if shared—swap mercenary counters using the loadout builder. Control towers and tech timings aggressively; Galactic War matches are often shorter than casual skirmish because both sides tech with season pressure.
Hero cooldown management wins tied sectors. Save fight-winning abilities for objective contests, not farm skirmishes. Study hero abilities for your main—Grace infantry spikes, Hel tank anchors, and Grinder siege breaks show up constantly in Season Zero lobbies.
Pre-warm control groups during the galactic queue countdown so RTS drops start with mechanical readiness rather than menu fumbling when the sector timer hits zero.
Rewards, ranking, and improvement loop
Season Zero rewards participation and performance: ranking tiers, profile cosmetics, and currency for loadout upgrades depending on final alliance placement. Focus on consistent RTS wins in assigned sectors rather than chasing personal kill stats that do not capture tiles.
Review losses for patterns: Were you countered on mercenary choice? Did you lose a third tower because of bad vision? Adjust using PvP meta builds and faction guides. Mission-specific tips like Frozen Watch teach defensive pivots valuable on winter-themed Galactic War sectors.
Galactic War will evolve with patches—revisit this guide and tier lists weekly during Season Zero. Pair campaign breaks with the campaign walkthrough to keep hero levels rising without burnout.
Record your alliance win rate by sector type—choke, open, or weather maps—to learn where your loadout actually excels. Personal feelings about a comp matter less than data across ten RTS drops on similar terrain.
Schedule short breaks between sector marathons—fatigue causes missed tower calls and bad mercenary swaps that look like comp issues in replays but are actually focus lapses.
