Survival Mode Guide
Win more ZeroSpace Survival co-op runs: wave pacing, Grell counters, defensive loadouts, duo roles, and when to tech before the next assault.
Survival fundamentals for duos
Survival in ZeroSpace is a two-player wave-defense mode against escalating Grell armies. Success depends on split roles: one commander handles workers, production, and tech while the other micros heroes, mercenaries, and front-line units between waves. Assign roles in lobby before queueing —mid-run arguments cost repair time you do not have.
Unlike skirmish, you cannot afford idle resources. Finish each wave with the next production cycle already queued. If you float minerals while supply-blocked, the following Grell wave will punish you before workers recover. Read how to play for economy basics, then apply them under zero downtime.
Your loadout persists from campaign and skirmish —use the loadout builder to lock a defensive mercenary before your first Survival queue on the dedicated Survival mode page.
Wave pacing and Grell composition reads
Early waves teach scouting rhythm: identify air, swarm, or siege leanings and tech counters before the mid-game spike. Grell biomass patterns from the Grell guide appear in compressed form —clumped spawns reward area denial heroes and mercenaries with cleave or artillery.
Between waves, repair structures and reposition static defense if the map allows. Do not chase stray units off the anchor point; wave timers restart faster than kill XP pays off. Save hero ultimates for elite Grell variants that appear every few waves rather than spending them on fodder.
The embedded gameplay overview shows Survival alongside other Early Access modes so you can compare pacing before dedicating a session block.
Recommended loadouts and mercenaries
Launch-week community runs favor:
- Protectorate + Koru + Hel — Shields and sustain for long holds; forgiving for first-time duos.
- Protectorate + Marran + Grace — Ranged DPS and infantry spikes; strong when waves funnel through chokes.
- Legion + Marran + Grinder — Siege breaks for elite waves; economy lead must keep pace with Legion supply costs.
Avoid double-burst mercenaries with no sustain unless both players perfect retreat timing. Cross-check alternatives on the loadout tier list after each balance patch.
After Survival — what to play next
Once you clear mid-tier waves reliably, transition to Galactic War co-op for Season Zero before August 2, 2026. Survival micro translates to tower fights; production discipline translates to ranked 1v1 and 2v2 once you add scouting and mercenary counters.
