Loadout Builder
Use the ZeroSpace Wiki loadout builder to combine main factions, mercenaries, and heroes. Learn the modular loadout system, synergy rules, and competitive planning.
What the loadout system is
ZeroSpace loadouts are modular three-part builds: one main faction, one mercenary group, and one hero commander. This trio defines your army’s backbone, specialty slot, and ability ceiling across campaign, skirmish, co-op, and Galactic War. Unlike static RTS factions in classic titles, mercenaries let Protectorate players add Marran tanks, Grell players add Void Mage control, or Legion players add Endari flanks without changing their main production structures.
The wiki loadout builder tool on this page lets you select each slot and instantly view synergy notes, potential weaknesses, and recommended modes. It pulls from the same roster data as best loadouts and Galactic War tier lists, making it a planning sandbox before you commit resources in-game.
Understanding loadouts is mandatory for Season Zero—players who pick random mercenaries each match lose coherence in production and ability timing. Pick one build, master it, then iterate.
Main faction role in your build
Your main faction supplies workers, production buildings, tech trees, and the majority of your army. Choose faction based on macro preference: Protectorate for balanced fundamentals, Grell for map control, Xol for fusion micro, Legion for late siege. Faction choice sets production hotkeys and win conditions—mercenaries modify but never replace this core.
When the loadout builder shows synergy text, it compares faction style strings with mercenary specialties. Matching styles (defensive + defensive) produce cohesive front-to-back comps; mismatched styles can still win if mercenaries cover explicit weaknesses—Protectorate air gaps filled by mercenary anti-air, for example.
Read main faction unit guides alongside builder results so you know which production counters enemies scouting your mercenary building.
Mercenary slot and hero layer
The mercenary slot adds unique units and abilities from one of seven groups detailed on mercenaries pages and mercenary unit guides. Marran adds tanks, Valkaru adds early pressure, Dread Raiders harass economy, Koru sustains long fights, Endari stealth flanks, Aztec Cultists ritual burst, Void Mages AoE control. One mercenary per match—choose based on map archetype from skirmish maps or sector terrain on the Galactic War map.
Heroes add commander abilities and gear scaling—Grace for infantry, Mirror for recon, Nero for campaign narrative, Hel for shields, Weaver for Grell creep, Grinder for siege. Hero bonuses stack multiplicatively with mercenary windows; the builder appends hero flavor text explaining how abilities complement your pairing.
Example competitive build: Protectorate + Marran + Hel for defensive Galactic War tower holds. Example aggressive build: Grell + Valkaru + Weaver for early map pressure. Validate against PvP meta before ranked queues.
How to use the builder effectively
Scroll to the interactive tool below this article. Select main faction, mercenary, and hero—analysis appears when all three are chosen. Read synergy paragraphs for coaching language you can apply in replays; read weakness lines to know which enemy mercs counter you (stealth versus Marran, anti-air versus air-heavy merc pairings, etc.).
Workflow for new players: (1) pick Protectorate + Marran + Hel in builder; (2) win three skirmish AI matches; (3) swap mercenary to Valkaru to feel aggression; (4) lock a Season Zero build from Galactic War tier list; (5) revisit builder after patches. Advanced players simulate counter-picks—if enemies run stealth, test Endari or detection-heavy mercs without committing in-game currency first.
Pair builder sessions with how to play, control towers, and Galactic War strategy. Loadouts are plans; execution still requires scouting and objective control. The builder does not replace practice—it accelerates decision-making before you queue.
Save three builder results as screenshots—defensive, aggressive, and counter-stealth—so alliance leaders can assign roles quickly when sectors pop without re-debating comps from scratch.
Season Zero loadout planning workflow
One week before Galactic War queues, lock three builder combinations: home-sector defense, flex counter, and striker tempo. Test each in skirmish on both open and choke maps from the skirmish map guide. Only adjust one slot at a time after losses—changing faction, mercenary, and hero simultaneously hides what actually failed.
Share builder outputs with alliance officers in plain language: “Hel Marran Protectorate holds Frozen Watch chokes—beats sharing raw IDs. Match names to Galactic War tier list entries so everyone references the same meta snapshot.
Re-run the builder after balance patches even if your gut says the comp still works—mercenary tuning often shifts weaknesses silently until tier lists update.
